Light

Plants with soft leaves have to be protected from sunlight. They tolerate the weak sunlight in the early morning or late evening.

These plants need a little more sunlight and grow well in a window facing east or west. You will probably have to dim during lunch time in summer.

These orchids are often exposed to direct sunlight in nature. In greenhouses or winter gardens they can usually be found above the other orchids. Do not expose them to direct sunlight during noon time either.

Temperature:

Cool growing orchids grow in altitudes from 2500 to 3000m in nature. In summer, temperatures should not exceed 22-25°C. When summer gets too warm, you can help them by creating a humid atmosphere around them.

Temperatures around 20°C are ideal for these plants. They should neither exceed 28°C for several days, nor should they drop below 15°C.

These species grow in warm places in nature. They can get used to a temperate climate.

Water:

Do water them regularly, but never leave them wet.

Water and spray regularly, they can stay dry for one or two days.

They must not dry out, especially when they grow. Humidity has to be quite high too. However, they do not like wet feet either.   

Fertilizer:

Low dosing, add fertilizer only every second time you water the orchid.

Augment dosing while orchid grows.

Rest period:

This orchid does not require any rest period. Keep it in the same place all year round.   

Give it a cooler rest period in winter. Water less depending on temperature drop.

Higher temperature drop during rest period, keep quite dry.  

Fragrance:

These orchids are often perceived as fragrant, depending on climate and time of the day.

These orchids are not fragrant.
